It is because by doing so the one doing the shaming breaks the most essential law of nature regarding positive human connection. When we make ourselves smaller than others, not wishing to rule over them but to serve them, then we let the positive force dwelling in nature pass through us to them. That is how the influence of nature’s positive force flows.
Our egoistic nature, however, wishes to control and make others smaller than us. But if we speak about reaching a higher state, where the pleasure we feel is not in our transient and narrow egoistic desires, but where we enjoy in a new sense above our egoism, which holds an equal trajectory to the force of love, bestowal, and connection that is in nature, then we need to understand that this egoism-to-altruism correction takes place by going against our egos. Even logically, we can only listen to others if we make ourselves smaller than them. That is true in every valuable and lasting relationship. We lower ourselves not because we are lesser than others, but because we want to give.
When I teach my students every day, I do not feel above them. I come to serve. Like how a waiter sets a table, I set the “spiritual table.” If I appear above them, it is only to help them ascend. Also, anyone can leave at any moment. The wisdom of Kabbalah never forces anything. Some leave quietly, some return, and I treat them all the same. It is not about me. It is about the path of correcting ourselves to reach balance with the altruistic and integral force of nature, which is the purpose of our creation.
