Dr. Michael Laitman To Change the World – Change Man

What Does the Saying Mean That “To Fear Sin Is to Be Afraid of the Sin Itself, Not the Punishment”?

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

One should be afraid of an action called sin, not punishment for that action because otherwise you are afraid of being punished.

Fear of punishment is egoistic fear, where we are afraid of ourselves being harmed.

Spiritual fear, however, is a fear of disconnection from the Creator, i.e., the upper force of love, bestowal, and connection that is opposite to our egoism and above it.

If we are advancing spiritually, i.e., developing more and more closeness and connection with the Creator, then we should fear not the consequences of our actions, but the actions themselves. Otherwise, our morality is just fear of getting caught. However, until we choose our path voluntarily, we are kept within a certain framework due to the Creator’s governance over us.
