Habit replaces happiness. If we continually give to our spouse, if we invest daily, then they become dear to us. A person is a small egoist whose nature is a self-serving desire for enjoyment. Love means receiving fulfillment. If there is no fulfillment, there is no love.
Love grows through daily acts of giving, until both partners cannot live without bringing joy to each other. Just like a mother feels happiness when her child smiles after eating a spoonful of her food, this is how love is built.
Wisdom comes from understanding human nature. We are egoists. We change from one moment to the next. We are inconsistent, no matter how much we would like to be consistent.
Family life is built on mutual concessions. We can concede to our spouse not because we are noble, but because we recognize that we cannot fully control human nature.
If we rise above this nature together, we can build a lasting and strong relationship. Until then, we must patiently and compassionately hold onto the bond we have, and build.
