Dr. Michael Laitman To Change the World – Change Man

What Kind of a World Are We Leaving for the Next Generation of Our Children?

When we look at the new generation, what kind of world do we wish for them, if anything were possible? A world similar to the one we have now but upgraded, or a completely different one?

Clearly, no one wishes for their children to constantly be on the defensive, embroiled in arguments and conflicts, or caught in ruthless and violent competition. We do not want a world where it is unsafe to go outside at night, as if the streets were a jungle full of predators. We do not want a reality in which we never know what blow will fall on us next, and where living conditions grow more difficult each year. And yet, this is exactly where we are today.

Stress, depression, despair, tension, anxiety, addictions, suicides, cases of rape and abuse, a cruel atmosphere in schools and on social media—alongside global warming, pollution of air, water, and soil, the spread of diseases and pandemics, economic crises and a rising cost of living. Not to mention the intensification of terrorism, wars, and nuclear weapons lurking on the horizon. In short, we are in a very dangerous situation.

How did we get to a point where we are handing over to our children a world that is completely unfit for a good, calm, and peaceful life?

The force that has driven us forward throughout history is the ego., i.e., the desire to enjoy for self-benefit alone The growth of human ego led to progress in social and economic life, in science and technology. We have achieved great feats, but along the way, we have lost the understanding of how to use our capabilities in a way that truly benefits us.

As a result, we have created a very egoistic world, where we each try to exploit others more and more. No one sees beyond themselves, and many take pleasure in building their success on the ruin of others. In this way, we destroy each other and the surrounding nature without any accountability.

Today, humanity is like a group of people lost in the middle of a forest or a desert, unsure where to go next. The leaders, rulers, and decision-makers are at a loss. Conferences, assemblies, and forums that they attend yield zero effective solutions, neither globally nor at the national level.

All that can help us from this point forward is a comprehensive educational and cultural process, through which we will give birth to a new humanity.

We clearly understand that without a good education, our children will not become anything. We now need to adopt this same attitude toward ourselves. We must sit down together and think: What do we want to become? How do we want to live? And what must we change accordingly, in the media, on social networks, in education, culture, and every other area? This must be humanity’s main occupation in the coming years.

Advanced technologies will fundamentally change the job market, rendering most of the population unnecessary. Computers and robots will do most of the work for us and will produce everything humanity needs. This will free up a great deal of our time, and it is important for us to invest it in learning, research, and developing the new world worth building.

Above all, we should let ourselves dream big. What could these new lives look like? The best, most fulfilling, most beautiful dream?

Surely, the safest and best situation is a world where everyone is like a healthily-functioning family. Everyone living in harmony, with mutual feeling, with the sense that everyone depends on each other, that the peace of each person depends on the peace of the whole society. It is a society where everyone cares about everyone else, and is cared for in return. In such a familial feeling, each person gives their all for the benefit of the collective, just as today everyone works for themselves. They take only what they need to survive, and devote all their energy to the well-being of everyone.

It is clear that every person is different, and every nation is unique, and we must preserve this diversity and uniqueness. We must treat everyone with respect, give room to all. All we need to agree on is that we want to move toward a life of connection, consideration, and mutual completion, up to a point of love between people.

The people of Israel have a special role in this universal process. In our roots lies the great secret, the method for living according to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” It is a method for correcting human nature through which the world’s correction can become realized.

We lost this method since the destruction (of the Temple, when we fell into unfounded hatred. If we rediscover it and rebuild life through connection, we will become a model for the way of life that is to come. That is why we were returned here, after two thousand years of exile among the nations. Today, we have the means at our disposal to build an exemplary society that will illuminate the world.

Our people’s nature holds all the necessary foundations. We only need to awaken these dormant tendencies together. We have always valued wisdom and kindness, not power and money. There was never any oppression among us as in other nations, nor were there classes of masters and slaves. All of Israel are friends, guarantors for one another, brothers. These are the original Israeli values, and in tomorrow’s interconnected world, they will be revealed as the only viable code of life.

Once we begin to apply this method of connection among ourselves, it will spread from us to humanity. This will neutralize all hatred directed at us, uproot the root of antisemitism from the hearts of others. There is no other solution to the threats surrounding us from every side, and this is all that will bring us genuine peace and security.

The comprehensive crisis facing humanity today is, in fact, an invitation to the next evolutionary stage. The sooner we build a new education and culture that will gradually draw us toward connection, mutuality, and completion, the easier it will be to birth a new human being, a new humanity.
