It was since the time of Aristotle and Plato. They had warned that science should not enter the hands of the ignorant under any circumstances, as they would misuse and sell it to the wealthy.
As a result, we ended up with technological progress outpacing spiritual progress, and we needed the latter much more in order to bring about harmony, balance and happiness to our lives.
The pursuit of science should be by people who wish to understand the meaning of life, lofty matters beyond the boundaries of our world. That is, science should develop solely in a way by which it helps us positively develop by rising above our world. There should be no right for anyone to engage in science with an evil intent.
What exactly is an evil intent in such a case? It refers to more than just a direct intention to harm others. Using science with an evil intent means aiming scientific development within the boundaries our world, or in other words, using science for the external development of technologies and inventions instead of using it for man’s internal development.
Accordingly, any invention that we develop beyond our necessities falls under the category of “evil.” That is, it becomes part and parcel of humanity’s external evolutionary path, which ultimately leads to increasing suffering. Historically, such a shift from external to internal development took place 3,000 years ago.
This also raises the question: Was there another option for human evolution, or did we absolutely need undergo the development that we did?
Indeed, it is a question, but it is difficult to say because understanding its answer requires living simultaneously in two worlds: this world and the spiritual world. On one hand, nature drives our evolution according to its own program, but on the other hand, we have been granted freewill to rise above our world and attain the spiritual. Only with such attainment can we start processing contradictory and opposite information as complementary. Then, with such an integral picture, we can understand exactly why we underwent the evolutionary path that we did, as well as where we are headed in the future.
