Dr. Michael Laitman To Change the World – Change Man

What Is the Future of Relationships?

From generation to generation, we change, and there is no comparing relationships today with those of 50, 100, or 200 years ago. In the past, people were connected in a much simpler way. They married people from their own village, people who had grown up from childhood in the same environment. There was no Internet, no traveling around the world, no unique path of personal development. Everything was standard, known in advance, and without the support of spouses and family, a person had difficulty surviving everyday life, let alone periods of illness, weakness, or old age.

With technological and scientific development, everything changed. The whole world is now in the palm of our hand, and we seemingly do not need anyone else. The media floods us with distorted images of relationships and family, while internally, too, the ego has grown and brought us to the point where our patience has run out. Gradually, a social norm of everyone doing as they please emerged. Accordingly, a generation has grown up that does not know what a deep relationship is or how to build a family.

With such a trend, it is quite clear that what will be is not what was. The next perception of relationships and family will probably be fundamentally new.

To understand what the future holds for us, let us broaden our perspective. The world we live in is becoming increasingly interconnected, and day by day it becomes clearer just how great our mutual dependence is. In such a reality, we are all like people sitting in the same boat. If someone does something in some corner of the world, everyone feels the result. Either we learn to work through reciprocity, consideration, and cooperation, or we will all sink. This is the great lesson that the 21st century brings us, and in the great school of life, there is no option to repeat a grade. The wheels of evolution do not wait for us.

At the next stage of humanity’s development, we are all one family. Just as nature is integral, with the still, vegetative, and animate levels forming a closed and harmonious system, so too will we have to learn to connect with one another through connection and mutual complementarity. Like organs in a single body, albeit consciously, through examination and choice. This will solve the problems we face today in every area, since they all begin with poor human relationships, and it will also lead us to wonderful achievements that we do not even dream of.

Relationships between partners, in their future form, will constitute a basic cell within the interconnected and harmonious body of society as a whole. Partners, like plus and minus, will form a unit of life built from opposites that learn to function together as one. Their relationship will be able to flourish and blossom only if it is adapted to the new code of connection that will emerge in society, a code of connection above differences, closeness above rejection, and love above hatred.

Society, for its part, will invest in instilling this new perception of connection and will help every individual develop their ability to positively connect to such a level. A relationship will become a kind of home laboratory for developing the human spirit within, and our partners will become companions in a wonderful process of spiritual development.

And what about compatibility, one of the issues that causes so much pain?

Well, the society of the future will feel like one large family, and therefore compatibility between partners will become a concern of society as a whole. It will not be our private problem, but something everyone cares about wholeheartedly, with sensitivity and love. There will also be experts who help each person find the right partner. In addition, from childhood onward, education will provide young people with an approach to building optimal relationships, that is, those that establish and sustain the development of loving, caring, and giving connections.

Today’s culture brainwashes us with images of stars, and we think that partners like them will make us happy. We have this kind of dream in which we walk down the street with our partner and everyone looks us over and says, “Wow, what a picture-perfect couple.” As though we were in a relationship so that we could appear together before large audiences. That will probably never happen, so it is worth leaving behind this fantasy of “what will people say?” and focus on what really matters.

After a deeper examination, we will discover that this is not a matter of body, face, or any other external feature, but rather of compatibility in subtle inner inclinations. Are you able to feel your partner even without words? Would you eat from the same plate with them and enjoy it together?

Overall, the most important thing to look for is that we have a similar goal in life. Some higher value that we both aspire to, in relation to which all the other details become less important. Beyond that, mutual concession is the foundation for building a relationship and the condition for preserving it over the years. We concede in order to grow, to develop, to rise together to a more advanced level of existence, one the entry ticket of which is connecting with others in love.
