Why Is Humanity Not Advancing as Much as It Used To?

We, as humanity, continually end up facing the questions: Where are we headed? What is our final destination? Also, what should we change to improve our lives? In the meantime, we walk various paths and develop in different directions.

Today, however, we stand at a historic moment. On one hand, the evolutionary force that propelled us forward seems to be running out. We are increasingly finding that we lack the strength to further develop, and the familiar historical line of progress is reversing. We point at our technological progress as a sign of us advancing, but mentally and emotionally we have stalled. We do not want the future, but it approaches us, and we have no idea what to do with it.

From a broad perspective, we could say that humanity has exhausted its abilities on Earth, and thus people are beginning to ask eternal questions. The question “What is going on here?” is arising among many and is no longer the domain of philosophers and isolated thinkers as it was in the past.

Seemingly, we possess tremendous power: we can soar into space or dive into the ocean depths. But with the push of a button, we could also annihilate all life on Earth. In today’s global and interconnected world, we are all in the same boat, and it is starting to fill with water. The dire economic situation, social gaps, violence in the streets, and even nature itself are striking us without mercy.

At the root of these negative phenomena lies egoism, the desire to enjoy at the expense of others, which destroys everything good, and which disrupts every aspect of our lives. It has become clear that business-as-usual can no longer continue. Therefore, for the first time in history, we are compelled to work on correcting our egoistic human nature, i.e., transforming it into its altruistic opposite.

Our “egoistic engine” has long propelled us into more advanced stages of development. Like driving a car with five gears, we moved from first to second, to third, to fourth, and to fifth. But when we reached the fifth gear and pressed the gas pedal all the way down, it is as if the engine has stopped. We suddenly discover that we cannot keep moving forward with the same engine.

In this unique stage that we now find ourselves in, we must change the trend, the values, the goal, the fuel, and even the engine itself, in order to move forward into the new life ahead of us.

Doing so requires reshaping the social atmosphere around us, because a person is built by their environment. When it comes to our children, we are fully aware of this principle and its importance. We always check who they make contact with, where they go, what social influences affect them, and what culture they are exposed to. When we choose their kindergarten or school, we carefully consider the people and the environment in and surrounding the institution. It is clear to us that the environment shapes the child and determines whether their personal potential will be realized for better or worse.

Now reality requires us to treat ourselves, the adults, similarly. The foremost task facing us today is to reshape our environment according to the direction that we wish to head.

When we enter into better relationships, society will become more corrected, more just, and more considerate. This is the central point on which we must work together, so we can be reborn, without suffering, into a new life.
