What Is the Purpose of Israel According to Kabbalah?

The wisdom of Kabbalah explains to us that the whole of reality is a single system. In all of nature, one general force operates, and we exist under it.

If we are wise, that force is much wiser. Moreover, if we know how to make plans, that force already knew them. We contain nothing beyond what it originally implanted in us, because we are its result, its children. That single force is given many names, including “God,” “Creator,” and “Nature.”

This perspective on reality as an integral system is essential for advancing our understanding of everything happening to us.

There is thus one force that creates and organizes nature from the beginning of the evolution we discover, and perhaps even beforehand. Everything operates according to laws, according to a comprehensive operating program. We can call it evolution or a divine plan, but the names we give it do not matter. What matters is how we find a way to discover that higher force. This is the subject of the wisdom of Kabbalah, our inner wisdom that investigates the foundations of reality.

The more we discover the higher force and the overall evolutionary trajectory it leads us through, the more we understand why various states come to us, and what we should finally do to evolve optimally, without blows and pushes from behind, but through conscious progress, with introspection and awareness.

The discovery of the higher force takes place according to a law called “equivalence of form.” This law states that the perception of any phenomenon requires the emergence of a similar form within us. A radio receiver works in this manner. To receive a wave that a specific radio station transmits, the receiver needs to generate the frequency of that wave within itself.

The higher force’s nature is bestowal, i.e., pure love and giving. To discover it, we need to create among ourselves a similar connection, a deep connection to the level of love. Moreover, we should do this above our differences of opinion, and all kinds of rejection that surfaces, i.e., above all ego and hatred.

Therefore, the general law is “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This is not simply a pleasant moral recommendation, but the definition of the only code of connection through which we can discover the singular higher force of nature. By achieving a state of “Love your neighbor as yourself,” we access the operating system governing everything happening to us and the whole of creation. The more we learn how to connect in an optimal manner, for which the wisdom of Kabbalah details a complete method, the closer we come to this higher force. Then, and only then, we can also feel its influence on us as benevolent.

There is no way to fundamentally solve today’s problems without approaching the higher force. Our myriad problems today point to a single broken place: the egoistic relationship between us, and it is precisely this place that must be corrected.

Abraham was the first to speak of the unity of all people. He taught how to connect through a common attitude of love. A community of thousands of students from all nations and tribes in the area gathered around Abraham and this idea he taught. As Maimonides explains in the Book of Knowledge, our nation was later formed from these people.

Since then, we have a mission within this universal puzzle. It is our responsibility to achieve a state of unity (“Love your neighbor as youself”) above our differences and divisions (“Love will cover all crimes”) in order to present an example of life in connection and love, i.e., a life aligned with the single higher force and its tangible revelation within the nation (to become “a light unto the nations”). We went through several ascents and descents in relation to this mission, until hatred destroyed our connection and sent us into exile around 2,000 years ago.

After a long exile, we were brought back here, to the Land of Israel, and not by chance. The world we live in has become interconnected and interdependent, connecting everyone to everyone, but ego games threaten to destroy everything built by humanity. Human beings need a new way of life, access to the higher force that will unite everyone. That is the underlying reason behind humanity’s seemingly disproportionate focus on this tiny piece of land called “Israel.”

The blows we receive, from inside and outside alike, indicate that we are behind. We fail to stand up to the demands of the times. Nothing will help us other than the awareness that we face a higher force. It is the one fighting us through the many characters and situations it sends. We need to come to terms with nature and align with it by connecting harmoniously among each other, above all differences.

We will receive strength, intellect and emotion, or mind and heart, from this higher force, if we wish to draw near it. This mind and heart will be new and integral, capable of perceiving reality as a single mechanism, and always considering the good of all. Such an approach will organize us from within, and it is what will shine from here worldwide. It will even calm down everyone who hates us, turning them into supporters. Gradually, humanity will learn how to live as one collective, and we will rise to our next level of existence as the crown of creation.

This is the evolutionary map discovered by the great sages of the nation of Israel, as explained in the wisdom of Kabbalah. All that remains for us is to help each other internalize this picture.
