On one hand, we see that our world is becoming increasingly interconnected and interdependence is growing. On the other hand, we see that the human ego, i.e., the desire to enjoy at others’ expense, is soaring to the skies.
It seems that this widening gap between the interconnected nature of the world and the egoistic nature of human beings is something we ourselves must bridge. Doing so will help us perceive where that internal engine of nature is directing us. In other words, what is the next form that the desire to enjoy should evolve into, and how can we organize human relationships in society accordingly?
If we do not develop such awareness, it is likely that various blows will come that will make it clear that we are all in the same boat, blows such as global economic crises, wars, unrest, pandemics, ecological disasters, and who knows what else.
A wise person sees ahead, and therefore it is worthwhile to take preventive action. We should try already now to study the overall direction of evolution and adapt ourselves to it. That means developing an integral approach to ourselves, others, and the environment, seeing us all as different parts of the same system that must connect with one another through reciprocity and complementarity.
Here precisely lies our point of choice: to continue behaving as we do now without changing anything, or to begin advancing together into a positive future.
“Together” is the key word, because the realization of free choice will be expressed in building a new environment, a society with new values, integral values that match the required development.
No one alone can change the desire that drives them. However, if together we decide that we need to rise above the narrow, egoistic desire to enjoy and develop an integral and harmoniously connected desire to enjoy, we will be able to discover the forces within the depths of nature that will help us build an entirely new society, one with positive connections of mutual consideration, reciprocity, warmth, and support among everyone.
