The more that AI and robots will threaten the job market, and the more we will need to reduce non-essential industry due to environmental harm, then the more we will need a new concept to supply life’s essentials for human society, and also to see what we can do immediately with those who live near us to ease the cost of living.
We are approaching a new evolutionary state. If until today everyone pulled inwardly to themselves as much as possible, trying to use others for self-gain, then this egoistic paradigm is coming to an end. A network of interconnectedness and interdependence is increasingly surfacing in the world, and we find ourselves sitting in the same boat. Either we learn to row together, or we will all drown.
Since the narrow “me versus you” perception still rules, everything is stuck for the time being. The social-economic systems, as well as relationships at work, in the family, and in the state. Paralysis strikes the world from too many ego games and power struggles. More and more severe wars can break out at any moment, and with all of our technological progress, it is sad to imagine what will remain afterward.
Simultaneously, the surrounding nature presents itself to us as an integral system, with its parts connected in mutual complementarity. Its still, vegetative, and animate levels create a wonderful fabric, and its integral law is beautifully evident at such levels, However, with us human beings, we need to apply this integral law through our own examination, awareness, and choice. That will be what sets the human being apart from the animal.
The first stage in the process before us is to distinguish between two levels, bodily and human. On the bodily level, we need survival necessities such as food and clothing, shelter and health services. On the human level, we need culture and education, science and learning, spiritual development and connection with society.
We once had no Internet and had to pay for everything. Today, much of what we had to pay for is available freely online. This points to a trend that we should strengthen: We need to shape society so that survival needs are available to everyone, that they will be a non-issue, and that we will have no worries about the need to fulfill them all the time.
We are certainly capable of doing so from a technological standpoint. The only problem is in negative human connections. Therefore, we will need to invest in this field, i.e., to develop positive integral human connections, to upgrade the human spirit to the level of love of others and love of the world.
In the past, socialist ideas arose and collapsed. Today, however, the need for love to enter human connections emerges out of no choice. We are on the brink of the world’s population entering a period of mass unemployment, where people’s very survival will be a major issue. If people will remain without basic needs, they will end up devouring whoever is in front of them.
This is a forthcoming global picture from which also arises a direction for joint coping with today’s cost of living. Through complementary human connections, it is possible to find creative solutions. For example, it is possible to organize the growth of fruits and vegetables in yards of apartment complexes or on the streets, to organize small warehouses for giving away second-hand items, to organize free classes for children and adults that we conduct ourselves, and to offer help to others in our fields of expertise. We can do such contributions in our free time, and out of understanding that together we can save a lot for those around us. Beyond these kinds of engagements, it is possible to organize cultural and leisure activities, sports, parties, music, youth recreation clubs, and more.
Our future is in mutuality: mutual responsibility, mutual guarantee, and mutual help. Beyond the survival necessity for such relations and the warm atmosphere that we can gradually create, we will discover that in positive human connection, our very capacity to perceive and sense reality expands.
As hearts interconnect with positive ties of human connection, higher worlds will open up before us, which are full of light and love. Money will also turn into a spiritual concept. In Hebrew, the word for money (“Kesef”) stems from the same linguistic root as that of longing (“Kisufa”), which means that by longing to cover everyone with a common umbrella of care, like a mother who gives and is filled many times over, we will be able to experience a newfound prosperity the likes of which we have never seen before. May we have a successful path forward into a good future.
