What’s Wrong With the Principle of Sodom: “What Is Mine Is Mine, What Is Yours Is Yours”?

At first glance, the principle of Sodom, which is “what is mine is mine, and what is yours is yours,” seems completely logical. In fact, it is absolute logic, and many people agree with it instinctively.

If everything comes from nature, then whatever nature gives to us is ours, and whatever nature does not give us is not ours. Even if we suffer, or lack something, we should accept only what is given to us. Likewise, others do not interfere in our share, and we do not interfere in theirs. This seems fair, balanced, even just.

So where is the flaw? The flaw is not in the logic itself, but in how people receive and implement it. People do not truly accept the laws of nature, i.e., laws of love, bestowal, and connection. They take the principle of “mine is mine, yours is yours,” but remove the aspiration toward nature’s altruistic form from it. Accordingly, it collapses.

Why? It is because this principle of “mine is mine, yours is yours” is only an initial state. It is the natural egoistic condition created by nature. In other words, it is foundation, but not the goal. Our task is not to remain in this separation, but to rise above it.

We must add that which is nonexistent in this principle, that of positive connection, love, and mutual inclusion. We should do so not by canceling what belongs to each person, but by covering it with a higher attitude, i.e., by building bridges of love, bestowal, and positive connection between us.

Internally, “mine is mine, yours is yours” remains. However, above it, we construct a new layer, which is “ours.”

This “ours” is not forced equality, not external redistribution, and not the kind of ideology we have seen in revolutions. Those attempts failed because they tried to erase individuality and ownership without involving the laws of nature, or in other words, without correcting the human ego by applying an altruistic intention upon the base desire for self-benefit alone.

“Ours” comes only when we connect above our ego, not instead of it. Then we become partners with nature. Nature created the ego, the separation, the distance, the “mine” and “yours.” And we, above this division, build connection, unity, and love. That is the correction.

If we try to build “ours” without applying the laws of nature into the equation, i.e., by relying solely on human systems, it leads nowhere. It disconnects from the root, and therefore cannot succeed.

However, if we place the laws of nature, i.e., the single, integral force of nature, at the center, and build our relationships around it, then a new form of society becomes possible. What kind of society would that be? It would be a society based not on coercion, but on inner transformation. And its foundation is one simple principle: unity.

Humanity will come to this. Either consciously, by choosing connection, or through suffering that will eventually force us to seek the correct and optimal solution.
