Is There a Right Way to Approach Failure?

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The right approach to failure is to understand that what must be, will be. Whatever is meant to happen will happen. Life moves in stripes: white, black, then white again, and then black again, and so on. After the black, a white will come. Maybe it will only brush past us lightly, but it will come. And then again, a black.

The problem is that we are built to run away from failures. We do not truly analyze, understand, repair, and prepare for what is ahead. We just want to escape them, which is an incorrect approach. If we connect the two states of failure and success, we rise above them. Then, we do not become weak-willed in times of failure or intoxicated in times of success.

This is what it means to unite black and white, not to see one as failure and the other as victory, but to rise above both. When we do, we move through them easily. “Rising above” means letting go of the constant chase for success, realizing that we are already in success today, right now.

Physicists speak of black holes. We ourselves are actually in one big astronomical black hole. What is beyond it? Nothing, and nothing is needed. We can relax with the knowledge that we are inside nature, and we should then let it lead us. Of utmost importance is to surrender to it.

Throw away the oars. Stop rowing against the current. In fact, even whether there is a current does not matter. Let go completely. If we believe in a wise, great, eternal, and all-powerful nature, then doing so is the most reasonable decision.

Also, we should remember that anything we do to resist this only reveals our own smallness, limitation, misunderstanding, and disagreement with the great nature in which we exist. Resist nothing. Invent nothing. Instead, we should try to understand what nature is, agree with it, and cling to it. By doing so, we will find the most optimal living state.
