The weekly Torah portion points to the corrections we must undergo in our relationships with one another.
Every portion reveals different challenges and provides guidance on how to deal with them. These instructions direct us to attain love for all people and perfect connection with all of creation.
The greatest and most renowned Kabbalist of the 20th century, Kabbalist Yehuda Ashlag (Baal HaSulam), who wrote monumental commentaries to The Book of Zohar and to the writings of the ARI, wrote:
“According to the words of Hillel—the teacher of all the Tannaim [sages during the early CE centuries], and by whom laws are interpreted—it is perfectly clear to us that the primary purpose of our holy Torah is to bring us to that sublime degree where we can observe this verse, ‘Love your friend as yourself.’”
When we genuinely aspire to live according to the full depth of this principle, we discover a complex process involving many states, opposing forces, ascents and descents, connection and separation, hatred and love.
We discover that through our relationships with one another, we are essentially writing the Torah ourselves, portion after portion.
Accordingly, every Sabbath symbolizes a weekly stage of correction and connection, while also pointing to the Great Sabbath, the final and complete correction of humanity.
