Dr. Michael Laitman To Change the World – Change Man

What Is the Biblical Prophecy of Gog and Magog? Why Is It Important Today?

“And it shall come to pass on that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel… that the mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground… And I will enter into judgment with him with pestilence and bloodshed; and I will rain upon him and upon his hordes, and upon the many peoples that are with him, torrential rain, hailstones, fire, and brimstone.” (Ezekiel 38)

An international coalition against us, a terrible war, and ultimately the intervention of a higher force. Does the prophecy of Gog and Magog describe a nuclear war? Can catastrophe be prevented? And what about the prophecies of peace—will they ever come to pass, or will they remain nothing more than a dream?

First of all, the answer is yes. Catastrophe can absolutely be prevented. It depends on our ability to discover the network of connections between all parts of reality and learn how to bring it into balance and harmony.

Nature consists of the still, vegetative, animate, and human levels. Humanity occupies the highest level of development and therefore exerts the strongest influence on the entire system. Within humanity there are the nations of the world and the people of Israel. The greatest ego exists among us, the Jews, and therefore, whether we like it or not, we are the ones who determine what happens in the world. This is what the wisdom of Kabbalah teaches as it investigates the structure of the general network of connection and the laws that govern it.

Whenever someone rises against us from the outside, it is the result of our having fought among ourselves. Unfounded hatred destroys us, and if we learn to connect through love, we will bring peace upon ourselves. Our connection will show everyone how it is possible to rise above every disagreement and conflict, and it will provide a path to the resolution of all friction between human beings. “Love your neighbor as yourself” will become the code of a new life and will create balance in all systems of relationships, between individuals, nations, and humanity and nature as a whole.

The War of Gog and Magog is the name given to the greatest war of egoism. If we overcome it among ourselves, within the people of Israel, we will not need to face any other enemy. If each person battles their own ego, i.e., makes every effort to connect with others above the rejection they feel toward them, if we help each other through personal example, we will see with our own eyes how all the chaos begins to subside in Israel, in the world, and in the environment. Even the ecological situation will improve.

However, if we lag behind the required development, if we continue the ego-driven struggles that have brought the country close to disintegration, then we will find ourselves facing severe attacks. The world will unite against us. Everyone will feel that Israel is the source of the world’s evil, the cause of whatever suffering they experience. No explanation and no logical justification will stand in our defense. Burning hatred will rise against us like a tsunami wave.

A wise person foresees what is coming and prepares the remedy in advance. If we were to take just one percent of Israel’s public diplomacy budget and invest it in uniting the people, we would fundamentally calm the world’s anger toward us. We need a cultural and educational revolution that creates an entirely new form of connection between people. We need a deep study of humanity’s egoistic nature and of the world’s integral direction of development. This should be defined as a national mission of the highest priority.

It is no coincidence that the world has become so interconnected and interdependent from year to year. This is nature’s way of signaling to us that we are all in the same boat, and if we do not learn how to work together, we will simply sink. Tomorrow’s world can only be a connected one, and the new way of life needs to develop in Israel. As the prophet Isaiah said: “I will also give you as a light to the nations” (Isaiah 49:6).

This research and development is our role in the human puzzle, and when we accept this global challenge, the nations of the world will come to support us. “And they shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders” (Isaiah 49:22), and likewise, “All nations shall flow unto it” (Isaiah 2:2).

In the vision of the end of days, it is said: “The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat” (Isaiah 11:6). This describes the perfect connection between opposites. Such a connection will bring universal peace in which “They shall neither hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain” (Isaiah 11:9).

The prophet Ezekiel said: “And My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd.” This symbolizes that in humanity’s advanced state, only the force of love and giving will govern the world as the supreme principle, as the upper force that every person seeks to realize in every moment of life.

This exalted state will come into being inevitably, because the forces of evolution are driving us to it. The only question is what we will experience along the way. Also, if until now we regarded the prophets’ vision of peace as a utopian description of a beautiful future, today it is becoming clear that it is the only code for survival in a world where everyone is interconnected.
