Dr. Michael Laitman To Change the World – Change Man

What Is Causing the Decline of Our Worldwide Insect Population?

Many insect species are declining, becoming endangered, or disappearing altogether. Scientists warn that this could lead to a catastrophic collapse, because insects are a crucial part of the planet’s balance. Without them, plants, animals, and humans all suffer.

They say pests like cockroaches and flies will increase, but bees, in particular, are vanishing. Bees are essential to the reproduction of the plant world. The chain of life becomes disrupted without them, which would turn into a major problem.

Can we solve it through science? No. We can try to make artificial bees, robotic pollinators, but I have no faith in such technological tricks, no matter how many billions are invested into them. They will not stop humanity’s decline, nor will they repair the damaged relationships between people, which is the deeper cause of the problem.

In fact, these inventions distract us. If they did not exist, we would have been forced long ago to ask ourselves what we really need to do. But instead, we put our hope in science and technology, thinking that if we throw more money at it, scientists will solve everything, and we can continue as we are. It will not work.

Only by changing our inner attitude toward the world and toward each other will we make nature whole again. Nature is an integral and closed system. If we violate its integrity, nothing we create can replace what has been lost. Even our thoughts, not just our actions, affect this system. Yet we still dream of shortcuts like building massive greenhouses, controlling pollination artificially, and replacing entire ecosystems with human-made substitutes.

It will not work. Nature has a purpose, and it pushes us toward an inner transformation of our egoistic human nature to the altruistic form of nature itself. We are not meant to simply repair the damage. We are meant to change ourselves. However, we resist this change. We continue trying to conquer nature, to feed our egoism, and in the end, no one is happy.

Science, when it reveals the interconnection and harmony of nature, is valuable. When it helps us feel that everything is interdependent, it can inspire us to seek harmony within ourselves and in our relationships. This is the kind of science we need to bring into society. All other achievements will not bring genuine happiness. In the end, they will only lead us to the realization that we must change ourselves.

So, what can we do to prevent the disappearance of insects and restore ecological balance? We need to raise the awareness that we are each integral parts of nature, responsible for entering into the right interaction with it. When we do, as the Bible describes, “the wolf and the lamb will live peacefully together, and a little child will lead them.” All of nature on inanimate, vegetative, and animal levels, will follow humanity into a harmonious and peaceful existence.
