We are living in a very special time, when the world is beginning to feel itself more and more as one unified system. The only problem is that these connections are not yet positive. They are negative. We feel our complete dependence on one another, and instead of bringing warmth and mutual support, this dependence begins to worry, irritate, and even frighten people.
If our connection is not kind, then it brings suffering. As it is written, “the unity of criminals is to their own and the whole world’s detriment.” When people unite egoistically, i.e., when self-interest remains as the leading calculation within a certain unification of people, then those uniting harm each other more efficiently. If relationships are not corrected, i.e., by placing an intention to give, love, and care for others above the innate desire for personal benefit, then it seems better for people to separate and keep their distance, because such connection only intensifies conflict.
This is not new. It began already in ancient Babylon, when egoism developed to such an extent that people suddenly began to hate each other. That was egoism’s first eruption on a global scale, and it shattered humanity’s natural unity. Before that, people lived as one, sharing everything as a single family. However, abruptly, they felt disconnected, divided into communities, clans, and nations. Many languages arose because the inner bond between hearts was broken. They could no longer live together.
It was precisely at that time that the wisdom of Kabbalah appeared.
A sage named Abraham, who lived in Babylon, revealed that we have to prioritize positive human connection. Humanity will not succeed in distancing itself from one another. Whether we want it or not, nature leads us toward greater and greater interdependence. The question is: Will such connection will be harmonious or destructive?
Abraham understood that egoism would only continue to grow, and therefore the solution to the growing ego is to learn how to unite above it. Therefore, he revealed the method of Kabbalah, the method of positive human connection.
Kabbalah explains that first we must correct ourselves and our relations. In other words, we need to learn how to apply an intention to benefit others above our innate desire for self-benefit. Then, we will experience our growing interdependence as increasingly beneficial, and everything we do will turn into blessing rather than harm. Humanity’s good future depends on transforming our inevitable unity from negative to positive, from hatred to love, and from a growing external connection with a growing internal distance, to an internal closeness that matches our increasing global interconnection.
