Dr. Michael Laitman To Change the World – Change Man

What Does “Angel of Death” Mean?

In the wisdom of Kabbalah, the angel of death is our egoistic human nature that makes us wish to benefit ourselves alone at the expense of others and nature. This quality brings about hatred and separation between people, and thus it is considered a state of death.

Kabbalah is a method that was made for the correction of this egoistic nature. Correcting this nature means inverting the intention upon it, from wishing for self-benefit to wishing to benefit others and nature. The more we undergo such a correction, the more we feel the upper force of love, bestowal, and connection enter our lives, discover the goodness of the upper world above our inborn egoistic one, and rise above our material lives.

Doing so is called “freedom from the angel of death” because we cease to feel total dependence on our self-serving desires, which in Kabbalah is also called “the body.” We rise above these egoistic desire and relate to reality with the same intention as nature itself: an altruistic intention that solely wishes to give delight and abundance to the entirety of its creation.

I wish for us all to achieve this level and begin to experience a much loftier life full of much greater pleasures and fulfillments than we currently feel.
