In the spiritual world there is no such thing as constant speed, and certainly no rest. In our world, we are used to thinking in terms of rest and motion: something can stand still, something can move, something can move at a constant speed. But spirituality is built on entirely different laws. There, rest immediately equals zero. It simply does not exist.
This is similar to what we see in the micro-world: an elementary particle cannot be stopped. The moment it would supposedly become motionless, it would disappear. In spirituality it is the same, but on an inner qualitative level. What appears to us in this world as “constant motion” is only an illusion created by our limited perception. In the spiritual world there is no constancy at all, only continuous positive acceleration.
Why is this so? It is because spirituality is the world of qualities, of intention, of effort toward bestowal. The moment we stop advancing, adding effort, and deepening our spiritual intention, we immediately fall out of spirituality. There is no neutral gear there. Either you are advancing, or you are no longer in that state.
So what is “rest” in spirituality? Rest is not inactivity. Rest is the enjoyment of constant effort, the pleasure that comes from uninterrupted work and from the continual increase of that work. It is satisfaction from the fact that I am constantly exerting myself more and more, deepening my connection, sharpening my intention, and accelerating my inner movement in becoming more and more like the spiritual force of love and bestowal.
In other words, spiritual rest is found not in stopping, but in acceleration itself, in the joy of continuous and increasing effort to love, bestow to, and positively connect with others.
