How Do People Find Meaning in Life? Is It Possible to Live a Fulfilling Life Without a Sense of Purpose?

We need to find the natural point within ourselves, the inner direction we already live in, even if it is still developing. What matters is that we stand in it firmly, without floundering or wandering aimlessly, unsure of where to go.

When I speak about the search for the meaning of life, I do not mean a confused state in which we have no idea what life is for. We should determine what the meaning of life is, define it clearly, and move toward it. And when we move toward the meaning of life, even if the path is filled with rises and falls, it brings immense fulfillment, pleasure, and calmness, together with a certain inner dissatisfaction that keeps us advancing, a creative imbalance that pushes us forward. We receive tremendous delight from the process itself. It is similar to the Storm Petrel soaring above the waves, alive in every moment of the storm.

Even when despair appears, even when we ask, “Did I choose the right goal?” it is still far better than living like a non-living element, just plodding through mechanical actions and numbing ourselves with entertainment. In other words, it is better to struggle and search than to live half-awake.

After long searches, we can truly find the meaning of life, adhere to our teacher, and continue forward through ascents and descents. I have had descents so deep that I could not even get out of bed. That is completely natural. This is the true path of searching, and there is no way around it. And yes, I call this a happy path. There is real exhilaration in the inner battle, even in the fall.

To those who enter the search for the meaning of life, I wish only one thing: enjoy the metamorphoses happening within you. Everything boiling inside you, every shift, every burst of confusion or inspiration, this is life! Do not grow old before your time. Or at least try not to grow old internally. I might be unable to climb mountains or wrestle with waves today, but inside me, all of this still exists. This inner storm gives the sensation of life.

By living this way, we remain young regardless of our age. As for myself, I feel young in two ways: inside, everything is boiling with life, and at the same time, I know how to balance it, how to keep my ship steady on the waves.
