Dr. Michael Laitman To Change the World – Change Man

What Gives You the Strength to Continue in Life?

A person can seemingly have everything necessary for life, such as food, a home, money, and security, and nevertheless wake up feeling like they have no strength and nothing to live for.

Where does this feeling come from?

We usually think that our life force comes from what we possess. If we have enough money, good health, entertainment, and comfort, then we should naturally feel satisfied. Yet we increasingly see that this is not the case. We can have all these things and still experience a profound inner emptiness.

This is because our true life force comes from connection.

We are created in such a way that we need to open our hearts toward one another, and feel others’ hearts opening toward us. When we aspire to connect with others and sense even a small response from them, something new begins to emerge between us. It is as though one heart opens, then another, and between them a common space appears.

Within that common space, we begin to feel understanding, mutuality, connection, and love.

This is already a different kind of life force. It is not the animalistic energy that merely lets the body survive. It is a spiritual life force that can be experienced solely through human connection.

This explains why a person who lacks nothing materially can nevertheless feel that they have no strength to live. Deep inside, perhaps without realizing it, they feel that they have no one to live for.

Life itself is constructed upon mutual giving and receiving. We give birth to children, raise them, care for others, receive their responses, and constantly fulfill one another. We cannot truly live only for ourselves. Life flows between us.

The problem is that our egoism increasingly separates us from this flow. We become more isolated, more self-contained, and less capable of opening ourselves sincerely to others. Then, despite having an abundance of material possibilities, we begin to feel that the essential ingredient of life is missing.

Perhaps this growing emptiness is precisely what will eventually push humanity toward a new kind of connection.

We will have to learn how to reach toward another person not merely because we need something from them, but because in the connection itself we discover a higher form of life. When one heart opens toward another and receives a response, a shared space is born between them. In this shared space, we can discover the strength to live.
