Dr. Michael Laitman To Change the World – Change Man

What Is the Significance of the Shabbat?

“Shabbat … is regarded as the purpose of heaven and earth, regarded as the ‘purpose of creation,’ meaning the completion of the final purpose. That is, a likeness of what will appear at the end of correction illuminates on Shabbat.”

– Kabbalist Baruch Ashlag (RABASH), “Concerning the Hanukkah Candle.”

This is why the sages taught that one who did not toil on the eve of Shabbat, what will he eat on Shabbat?

The effort required is the effort to leave the domination of self-love and acquire vessels of bestowal.

Shabbat symbolizes the final correction of all created beings, the state of complete rest.

Rest means that there is no longer any need to struggle to connect with others, to correct ourselves, or to free ourselves from narrow self-love.

At the completion of this work, we will feel that we are one family, seated around one table and enjoying life together.

Each person will take joy in the joy of others, just as a loving mother delights in seeing her children enjoying the food she has prepared.

This mutual love is called the perfect “delight of Shabbat,” and it is the state humanity is destined to attain.

Today, as reality becomes increasingly interconnected while ego-driven conflicts threaten the world itself, a revolution in our understanding of human relationships is essential.

We, the people of Israel, are meant to lead the way and provide an example. If we learn the method of connection above all differences, the entire world will seek to adopt the secret of a good life.

As The Book of Zohar teaches:

“As man’s body divides into organs and they all stand degree over degree, established one atop the other and are all one body, similarly, the world, meaning all creations in the world are many organs standing one atop the other, and they are all one body. And when they are all corrected, they will actually be one body.”

This is the vision symbolized by Shabbat: a humanity united in love, living as one body, filled with light, peace, and joy.
