Do You Think That Suffering Really Helps People Rise to a Higher Spiritual Level?

There are many people who deliberately choose suffering, believing that through pain they will become more spiritual. This is a mistake. Suffering in and of itself does not elevate us.

But what does it mean “to not suffer”? It means that if we clearly understand that what we go through helps someone else, i.e., that it makes another person’s correction, growth, or life easier, then such suffering can have meaning. On the other hand, if this exists only in our imagination, then it is self-deception.

The crucial point is that the meaning of suffering is never about the person themselves. It is always about others. If our endurance, struggle, and persistence serves as an example that strengthens another person, gives them hope, or helps them rise, then it holds purpose.

Moreover, bodily pain does not necessarily mean suffering. If we annul ourselves before fate, to what has been planned in creation, then we reasonably agree with what we encounter, including illness, pain, and hardship. We then agree to the necessity of our experience, and that it comes from a single source as part of the unfolding of the thought of creation.

What happens then to the suffering? Agreement creates inner tranquility. We stop fighting reality, accept our fate, accept the upper governance, and accept that our experience is precise and purposeful. Such acceptance acts like an analgesic.
