Pressures, pains, doctors. Maybe the tests show nothing unusual, but the distress continues. Therapists, psychologists, medications. Sometimes there is some relief, but not a solution. Work is hard, family is hard, life is hard everywhere. Why has this epidemic come upon us today? The integral approach to educatiom offers a unique diagnosis, and also a method for overcoming everything.
The source of all problems, all distress, all illnesses, is internal imbalance. If once phenomena like depression were the lot of bored aristocrats, today depression can be found even in remote villages in Africa or in the Andes. Even pets fall into depression, living on pills.
This stems from the fact that we all exist in one network and influence each other in many ways. Not only viruses spread among us, but also moods, thoughts, and pressures. Accordingly, we cause one another to become unbalanced.
Understanding the global nature of the problem makes it clear that all of humanity needs treatment. When everyone learns how to connect to each other in a friendly way, to stop hatred, exploitation, and other egoistic patterns of behavior, then we will achieve overall balance, calmness, and physical and mental health. This will radiate balancing power even to the other levels of nature, the still, vegetative, and animate, which today suffer because we are out of balance with one another.
Meanwhile, our daily lives are full of a tense, competitive, and threatening atmosphere that drives us all anxiety and stress. The media also floods us with examples of negative behavior. Therefore, we witness extreme phenomena in many areas, from family problems, to violent outbreaks in the streets, and up to various diseases.
In such a situation, it is worthwhile to add specialists in the integral method to the existing medical system who will address the balance of human relationships. Just as health funds today include practitioners of complementary medicine, which once was not accepted in mainstream medicine, now we must advance to the next stage of healing.
It is important to understand that when the human system around us is out of balance, this imbalance affects our psychological-emotional state. It causes the appearance of psychosomatic illnesses that harm all bodily systems: nervous, digestive, cardiovascular, muscular, skin, and more.
Everything begins with the “head,” which is responsible for all our attitudes toward the world. Therefore, that is where the root treatment must begin. If we treat it, the highest system, then all the other systems will balance accordingly. In the term “head” we include thoughts, desires, passions, moods, the whole complex of our relationships, the level of human development, and openness to others. Our health greatly depends on these.
The integral approach to education is based on working in small groups of about ten people. One studies human nature, the nature of the world, and the direction of development toward integral connection between everyone.
We develop the ability to see how life ties us into one system, and at the same time how each person’s ego locks them inside their narrow self-interest. The contradiction between these two directions generates negative influences, and as the egoistic code of behavior grows stronger, there is no point in dreaming of a rosy future. The only hope is to build an alternative influence of integral values.
During the discussions, we share viewpoints and personal impressions, and help one another grasp the ideas. The format of the dialogue is unique, called a “connection workshop,” with rules that enable the formation of a deep bond among participants. Through exercises and challenges, we practice the integral principles being studied.
In addition, we go out for trips, sports, and cultural activities, sometimes organize picnics with families. The goal is to learn how to positively connect, to create mutuality and complementarity. This builds for us a mini-integral society that eases the pressures each person absorbs daily from the environment. Besides face-to-face meetings, we can also decide to hold a short virtual meeting every evening, say for fifteen minutes. If someone shares something that troubles them, the others can support, encourage, embrace, reassure, and provide new perspectives that help find a balanced attitude to the issue.
But what most distinguishes the integral method is the mutual connection to the general mechanism of nature. As it happens within the group, we begin to feel ourselves coming closer together and to nature. We find ourselves within a single force that envelops us warmly. This is the force of life. By connecting to others out of love, we become similar to that force, united, and therefore feel it flowing through the channels between open hearts. From this flow comes balance, health, and calmness. A new life.
