It is commonly thought that if you have your health, you have everything. However, despite much scientific progress, it is hard to say that today we feel healthier. What is the full definition of health? What is the root of all diseases?
We see our bodies as if each stands on its own, unrelated to others, but that is untrue. We all belong to the system of nature, in which the still, vegetative, and animate levels are interconnected. Throughout the system, nature connects its parts and develops life as an integral mechanism built on reciprocity and complementarity, which forms a wonderful fabric of life.
Human connections exist at the highest evolutionary level in the system of nature, and therefore they have the most powerful influence on what transpires in nature’s other levels, including within the human body. If we better understood how much we depend on each other, we would treat ourselves as parts of a single body.
The fact that we infect one another with diseases and various viruses is a secondary phenomenon. The primary one is that the quality of human connections determines the general level of health. What does this mean? What destroys our health more than anything is poor human relations: bad thoughts, and selfish tendencies to exploit others for personal gain. No other creature in nature enjoys humiliating or harming.
If we want to heal the root of all diseases, we need to repair human relationships. Naturally, everyone’s ego increasingly grows, desires become more and more selfish, and people feel less closeness and consideration toward each other. Accordingly, it becomes clear that developing new medicines is not enough, because until we treat the root issue, more advanced diseases will continue to appear.
From a broader perspective, in our existence we can discern three circles of life that are nested within each other: individual, society, and nature.
The first circle is the individual. Our mental health, nervous system, and all bodily systems are under the control of the highest system within us: the ego.
The second circle is the society surrounding us. Inside it live people who want to gain at each other’s expense, and it is thus full of constant egoistic clashes. The social circle is full of struggles and sickness. Why? It is due to its imbalance with the third circle.
The third and widest circle includes the system of nature, which always aspires to achieve balance among all of its parts.
How can we achieve balance among the three circles of life?
We can achieve this by living in cooperation and mutual support with one another. In doing so, we will also create harmony between human society and the broader system of nature. When the three circles—individual, society, and nature—are in balance and harmony, we will attain true and complete health.
Also, regarding the health system, in the past, the industrial revolution took people out of villages and turned them into factory workers. Alongside that development, the health system arose to ensure that workers could function. Since then, medical and other health-related industries have developed, and today’s health system is a mechanism that circulates enormous sums of money and budgets. Of course, there are interests besides people’s health involved in this setup.
As part of the general social recovery, the health system will also need to undergo a fundamental shift in perception. Its role will not be to treat the sick, but to ensure that people are healthy, i.e., that they will have no need for doctors or medicines. This system should care for our nutrition, physical activity, air pollution, mood, stress reduction, and improvement of human relations. Truly warm human connection will benefit us. It will cure us of loneliness, anger, depression, and pain, and as a result, it will significantly strengthen our physical resilience.
I wish us all good health and positive connection.
